Sanding and Surface Preparation

Pressure Washing

Proper preparation starts with a clean surface, and that’s where pressure washing plays a critical role. Before any painting or staining project, we thoroughly clean surfaces to remove dirt, mildew, and loose debris that can interfere with adhesion.

For outdoor projects, we provide complete deck cleaning using the appropriate deck wash for pressure washer solutions. Whether it’s a weathered surface or routine maintenance, we tailor our approach to safely and effectively restore the material. We also specialize in wood deck wash techniques that clean deeply without damaging the wood. Knowing how to properly clean a wooden deck ensures that stains and paints absorb evenly and last longer.

Upon request, we also offer pressure washing to siding. Given that mildew and dirt can accumulate on these surfaces, we are able to make siding shine with a pressure wash.

This step is often overlooked, but it makes a major difference in the final result. Without proper cleaning, coatings can fail prematurely, leading to peeling or uneven finishes.

By taking the time to prepare surfaces correctly, we set the foundation for a paint job that not only looks better but performs better over time. You can expect to pay $70-$100 for 200 sq ft.

Sanding

Sanding and surface preparation are some of the most important steps in any exterior painting project, and they’re often the difference between a finish that lasts and one that fails prematurely. At Letts Paint, we put a strong emphasis on doing this stage properly to ensure every coat of stain or paint adheres smoothly and evenly.

We start by assessing the state of the surface and choosing the right materials, including the proper sandpaper grit. scrapers, and other tools to use, to remove old coatings, splinters, and weather damage. Selecting the right tools ensures we don’t damage the wood while still achieving a clean, paint-ready surface.

Proper sanding not only improves the final appearance but also significantly increases durability. Without it, paint can peel, bubble, or wear unevenly over time. We also take care to clean all dust and debris after sanding, creating the ideal conditions for stain and paint application.

By investing time and attention into surface preparation, we ensure that every project we complete has a smooth, professional finish that stands the test of time. Roughly speaking, you can expect to pay $0.80 per square foot of preparation for exterior surface preparation.

Wood Repair

If damaged wood is present, often on older decks or exterior window trim, it needs to be properly repaired before painting to ensure a strong and lasting finish. We assess the condition of all wood surfaces and determine the best repair method based on the level of damage.

We use products like Dynapatch and Drydex for wood, and deck wood filler to rebuild and reinforce weakened areas. For surfaces that will be stained, we select a wood filler that you can stain to maintain a consistent appearance.

Whether it’s a small wood patch or more extensive repair work, we ensure the surface is smooth, solid, and ready for paint or stain.

Taking the time to properly repair wood prevents future issues and ensures the final result looks professional and lasts longer.
